What do you REALLY know about Respect Life?  Many people assume it’s just a group that’s opposed to abortion, but it also addresses issues pertaining to euthanasia, care for those with disabilities, peaceful resolutions to war or political conflicts, embryonic stem cell research, cloning, the death penalty and contraception.  It’s all about LIFE.

All Respect Life efforts are rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and focus on the dignity of the human person.  As Catholics, we hold life sacred from conception to natural death.  We believe that every person is precious, and made in the image of God.  We believe that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every institution is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person.

Our MissionLife is a precious gift from God.  The Respect Life Ministry of Sacred Heart Parish is committed to building and promoting a more just society, consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church, in which every human life is cherished and protected from conception until natural death.  We are a ‘People of Life and a People for Life’.

Goals for our Ministry: To educate parishioners on what the Roman Catholic Church teaches regarding various life issues that we confront in our everyday lives.  In the coming months, our bulletin & website will include articles published by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities on these issues.  As a follow-up to those articles, we will schedule a speaker or discussion session on the same subject the following month, so that interested parishioners have an opportunity to better understand Catholic Church teaching on the subject.  The Respect Life Ministry recognizes that these life issues are not simple or easy, and that many of them are morally and politically charged.  Oftentimes we simply don’t know enough about the subject, and need to take the time to read, ponder and discuss them.  We hope to provide you with an opportunity to do so.
